Help Count Salmon for Alaska Fish & Game
Every day, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game uses sonar to count salmon migrating upstream to spawn and downstream to the ocean. Their findings help to understand the current salmon population and inform their decision to allow commercial fishing on any given day.
If the salmon population is healthy enough, the Department of Fish and Game will declare an opener to allow fishing.
Once you begin, you will have limited time to count. Touch the left or right button to count salmon moving upstream (left) or downstream (right).
Once the time is up, your results will be displayed.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game's work is important to our ecosystems. Accurate data helps prevent overfishing and protects the health of our salmon population.
